Born NOT i the USA / Nacido No en los EEUU
Mi cuento Infantil
In this project we were required to create a childrens story, using the country and town we had chosen that had a large spanish influence. Then we had to place our stories into a book and illustrate the pages to go with our story.
El Cuento De Mico
Listen to a recording of me reading my children's story about life in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Escucha a una grabacion de yo leyendo mi cuento infantil sobre la vida en La Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, Guatemala.
Reflexiones
Born Not in the USA / Nacido NO en los
EEUU
If I were to do this Project again I would spend more time on
putting it all together inside the book. I would have designed a better page
layout so the reader does not have to guess as to what the picture describes. I
would have also picked more child related topics; for the ages of the students
are all under 11 years old. If there is one more thing that I would redo it
would have to be the cover. I would have made the text more even and I would
have changed the font size and style.
The most challenging part of this project was coming up with
ideas for the pictures in my book. I thought of drawing characters on each page,
including buildings as well. This would have taken more time but would have
shown the effort I had put into my project. Overall, I am satisfied with my book
and I enjoyed this project.
Del Alma Exhibition Reflection
During our exhibition at Needham Elementary school, we were put into groups of three
and assigned to an elementary student. Then we each read our stories and had the
student pick a story of their choice for us to read to them.
This experience for me was a totally new experience. I had never read to
young children for a school project, and I really enjoyed it. However, I feel
that there could have been a better use of an exhibition than reading to
children who did not pay attention most of the time.

Arte y Lengua
For my project I was given the task to research a Spanish
artist or architect to write a paper and do research on. I chose to research an
architect with the name of the Santiago Calatrava. The reason I chose Santiago
Calatrava was because of the way he designed and the materials he used when
designing his buildings. The goal of the project for me was to find out more
about Santiago Calatrava, what I found out was that Santiago Calatrava is the
best modern architect of our time. If I could do the project over I would
probably had made a scale model of one of his buildings. Other than that I
would not have changed anything.

El trabajo de Santiago Calatrava es radical y

ODE & RECIPE
Our most recent
project was to create a recipe and an ODE based on the dish the recipe makes or
one of the parts of the dish the recipe makes. We then were required to
translate the recipe over to Spanish to the best of our ability. After the
recipe and ODE was done we created the dish and served it to an audience at a
school exhibition.
I really enjoyed
this project because I had just come back from Ecuador and I brought a great
recipe with me. So that aspect was not very difficult for me but the creation of
the ODE was challenging for me because I decided to use more complex words which
led to the longer creation process of my ODE. However I loved the project and I
would do it again.

Oda al Chocolates y Platanos
The
dense vegetation obstructs my view
slimy leaves punch me in the face and tear at my clothes with their serrated
edges
accumulating, a birds nest in my
hair
tugging at the brush, a luminous glow stares at
me
bright red
all alone, serrated warriors protecting the
king
destroying my arm as I pluck the king off his throne
down he falls into my hand
the deep red penetrates my soul
enveloping my curiosity
mesmerizing my every move
a smirk across my face
as I kneel down and place
the cacao that I voyaged to find
with one steady blow
time seems to slow
my perseverance is rewarded
The sweet citric taste
Slurping up my prize.
rojo radiante
Me agacho y coloco
el cacao que yo viaje para encontrar
con un firme
el tiempo parece disminuye
mi perseverancia es recomenzada
el sabor dulce cítrico
sorbiendo mi premio
