LINK Project Proposal
I am interning at RAAM Development in Ramona California. RAAM Development is an architecture firm. They specialize in Maharishi Vastu (a type of architecture). They build buildings for the community. My mentor is my Uncle, Paul Worland. He is the owner and CEO of RAAM development. I hope my uncle can offer me his knowledge and expertise in architecture during my stay with him and his company. I hope to learn a lot about what I want to do academically in college. I hope to be able to figure out if this might be a possible career that I might want to pursue when I get older. My goal for LINK is to create an awesome project and to gain a substantial amount of knowledge during the three weeks I am there. For my project I will be designing a 3-D model, diagram and schematics for wooden steps to be built for my Eagle Scout project. I am working at an architecture company so I will be in the right spot for developing my steps and making them the best that they can be. While my project does not contribute to his community it does contribute to my community. I will be building these steps as an access point to get up to the Manna soup kitchen I Durango. This will give people easier access to the soup kitchen and greatly benefit those in need. I hope to learn how to properly draw up schematics and 3-D designs to really give me an understanding of what the steps need to look like and how they need to be placed to properly function for years to come. For my LINK project I will need to be obedient and be able to listen and think abstractly because I will be working with engineers and they usually don’t put up with crap. I will also need to be able to use good communication skills during the remote part of my internship because good communication is key to a successful project. I will be completing my project at my uncles ‘house’ so I will need to stay focused and not procrastinate or wander. I will need to take measurements while I am here in Durango so I can properly set up my steps. I will then need to be able to take good notes so that they are easily readable to my uncle for proper project set up. I will be working on my own during the first week so I need to stay focused and not get distracted. I had trouble figuring out a project originally so that was a rather large challenge that I had to overcome. I handled the problem by talking with my parents and my uncle and going over possible ideas as to what I could do for a project. I have feeling very good about my LINK internship. My uncle lives in a beautiful spot of the country so that will be very nice. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I have a feeling that my uncle might drive me crazy so I will need to maintain composure during the 2 weeks I will be with him.
